What Is an Emboss Image Effect?
An emboss image effect creates a raised relief look by turning edges into highlights and shadows. Use this embossing filter for photos, logos, badges, text graphics, and textured pictures. The Deboss toggle reverses the relief direction when you want an engraved or pressed-in style. Need extra definition? Pair with sharpen image and image contrast for stronger edges, or finish with grayscale for a classic engraved look. Add a vignette effect after embossing to draw focus toward the center of your relief.
True Emboss Convolution
Apply a real 3×3 convolution emboss effect, not a fake overlay. Texture and relief are computed per pixel for consistent output.
Directional Light Control
Rotate the light direction with the angle slider. Internally, the tool snaps to 8 practical directions for clean, predictable relief.
Amount + Deboss
Blend from subtle to strong with Amount, then flip to deboss for pressed-in texture. Great for badge and stamp-style graphics.
Instant Auto-Apply
Upload once and preview updates automatically as you drag controls. No extra apply step, so iteration is fast and visual.
Flexible Export Formats
Export embossed output as PNG, JPG, or WEBP. Keep high detail for print mocks or smaller files for web delivery.
Private Browser Processing
Every emboss image operation runs locally in your browser. Files are not uploaded, stored, or shared with servers.
Emboss vs Deboss vs Engrave — When to Use Each Effect
Use emboss when you want a raised look for coins, metal badges, highlighted logos, or textured photos. Use deboss when you need an engraved or stamped look for letterpress, carved marks, and seal effects. A reliable sequence is sharpening before embossing, then adding contrast for stronger depth, and finishing in grayscale for a classic engraved print style.

Emboss Image Online FAQ
Learn how to emboss images, use a deboss effect, and choose settings for photos, logos, and text.
How do I emboss an image online?
Upload your image, then adjust Amount and Angle. The emboss effect updates in the preview as you change settings. Toggle Deboss if you want an engraved look, then download the result.
What is the difference between emboss and deboss?
Emboss creates a raised relief appearance, while deboss creates an indented or pressed-in effect. In this tool, Deboss simply inverts the kernel direction so highlights and shadows swap.
Why does the angle slider snap to specific directions?
The UI slider is continuous from 0-360 degrees, but processing snaps internally to 8 useful directions (every 45 degrees). This keeps output consistent while still feeling intuitive to adjust.
Can I control emboss strength?
Yes. Amount controls blend strength from 0 to 100. At 0, output matches your original image. At 100, the full emboss kernel result is applied.
Does this tool support JPG, PNG, and WEBP?
Yes. Uploads support JPG, PNG, and WEBP. You can also choose output format from the download dropdown.
Will embossing reduce image quality?
No resizing is applied by default. Processing runs at original resolution and then exports in your selected format.
Is my image uploaded to your server?
No. All emboss and deboss processing happens directly in your browser using Canvas API. Your image stays on your device.
When should I combine emboss with other tools?
For cleaner detail, sharpen first. For stronger depth, increase contrast after embossing. For print-style results, convert to grayscale after relief is applied.
Can I emboss a logo or text?
Yes. Upload a logo, text image, badge, seal, or lettering graphic. Emboss works especially well on high-contrast logos and text because the edges create clear highlights and shadows.
What is the difference between emboss, deboss, and engrave effects?
Emboss creates a raised relief appearance. Deboss creates an indented or pressed-in look. Engrave is similar to deboss but usually implies deeper carved cuts. Toggle Deboss when you want a stamped or engraved style.
What settings work best for embossed letters?
Use a clean, high-contrast text image and set Amount between 60 and 90. Rotate the Angle until the highlights make the letters readable. Try Deboss for pressed-in badge or seal effects.
Can I create embossed texture?
Yes. Use Amount 50 to 80 on textured images such as fabric, leather, stone, or paper. For stronger depth, increase contrast after embossing.
